RidgeNote

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-21

RidgeNote is a gear-research site. We collect as little personal information as we can get away with, and this page explains — in plain English — what we do collect, why, and what happens to it. This is general information, not legal advice.

What we collect

Newsletter email. If you sign up for our weekly Trail Notes email, we store the email address you give us. Emails are sent through Resend, our email delivery provider, which processes your address on our behalf. We do not sell or rent your email address to anyone.

Basic analytics. We collect aggregate, non-identifying usage data — which pages are visited, roughly where traffic comes from, and what devices people use — so we can see what content is useful. We do not build individual profiles from this data.

No accounts yet. RidgeNote does not currently offer user accounts, so we do not store passwords, profiles, saved preferences, or purchase history. If accounts launch in the future, this policy will be updated first.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working (for example, remembering basic session state) and to power the analytics described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site will still work, though a few conveniences may not.

Affiliate-network tracking

This is the part most privacy policies bury, so here it is plainly: RidgeNote earns money through affiliate links. When you click a "buy" or retailer link on this site, the affiliate network that powers that link — such as AvantLink, Impact, ShareASale, Amazon Associates, or a retailer's own program — will typically set a cookie in your browser. That cookie lets the retailer know the sale came from RidgeNote so we can be paid a commission. It does not change the price you pay. These cookies are set and controlled by the affiliate networks and retailers, not by us, and each network's own privacy policy governs them. See our Affiliate Disclosure for the full picture of how affiliate links work here.

Third parties

We share data only with the service providers needed to run the site: Resend (email delivery), our hosting and content-delivery infrastructure (including Cloudflare), and the affiliate networks described above when you click an outbound retailer link. We do not sell personal information.

Data retention

We keep your newsletter email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Aggregate analytics data is retained to track long-term trends but is not tied to you personally.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — just email [email protected]. Every newsletter also includes a one-click unsubscribe link.

Children

RidgeNote is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data — for example, when user accounts launch — we will update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top before the change takes effect.
