MSR WindBurner Personal Stove System

Overview

The WindBurner Personal is MSR windproof solo cooking system, built around an enclosed radiant burner that keeps boiling in wind that stalls open stoves. The pressure-regulated design holds performance as the canister drains and in the cold, and everything nests into the 1.0-liter pot.

Our verdict

The WindBurner exists for one reason and does it better than almost anything: it keeps boiling when the wind is howling. The enclosed radiant burner is genuinely windproof where an open flame like a PocketRocket falters, and the pressure regulator holds output as the can empties and the temperature drops. The tradeoffs are honest - it is heavier than a bare canister stove, there is no built-in igniter, and it is a boiler, not a simmer stove for real cooking. For exposed alpine camps, shoulder-season trips, and anyone who has watched a stove lose to the wind, it is worth the weight.
